Paxman 83 - Compensating Triple Horn F/Bb/F alto
DESCRIPTIONThis instrument has been used professionally for seven years and is in excellent condition. At its core is the tried and tested Paxman Bb/F alto combination (exactly as the Model 45) which has a huge tonal and dynamic range, stable intonation and clearly defined harmonics which allows considerable freedom, security and flexibility to the player. Paxmans have incorporated a compensating F-basso side (as in the Model 33) providing the added depth and pedals of a responsive and lively F horn. This horn has proved itself in symphonic playing (including regularly on 1st in the RPO), chamber music and solo performances, recordings and more. A very, very fine horn that is extremely rare in the second-hand market, the list price for a new-built one is in excess of £15,000. Here is a recording of the horn in action.

Conn 6D (Elkhart) F/Bb Full Double Horn
DESCRIPTIONThis horn dates from around 1966 and is in fine condition for it’s age. This horn was made in Elkhart often regarded as the best years of production for Conn instruments. The 6D now is often regarded as a more intermediate student instrument but in this period was regarding in equally standing to the pro 8D but a medium yellow brass horn. The lacquer is in adequate condition with a fair amount of wear but nothing unexpected for it’s age. The leadpipe had been replaced which has improved the playing greatly. The valves are fine but as you might expect with an instrument of this age they require regular use of thicker oil to maintain good compression. The horn plays very nicely and is an excellent quality instrument and would suit someone on a tighter budget with out sacrificing quality.

Jiracek 511 - Natural Horn
Handmade in the Czech Republic around 2005, the Jiracek model 511 is based on the French style of natural horn with a bell taper from a Franz Weckert instrument. The instrument’s main tube is 11.2mm bore (the smallest bore size of all Jiracek and Sons’ historic horns) and with adaptors can be played at A= Hz 440, 430 or 415.
This horn is supplied with the a full set of crooks: C-alto, Bb, A, G, F, E, Eb, D, C basso, with an adaptor for Bb basso
It comes with 2 cases – one for the corpus and one for crooks

This wrap of this horn is very similar to a Alexander 90 and thus plays very similarly but with the added benefit of all the F horn notes like a full double but with less weight. DESCRIPTIONThis is a fantastic and very special horn that plays like a dream. It is in like new condition with not a single mark as recently has been relacquered. It also has the addition of a fully adjustable finger hook and mount for a Schmid flipper. The flare included with the horn is a normal spun medium yellow flare which is the one I think works best with this horn despite being the most standard one. However there are options to upgrade this to a different flare or even purchase an additional flare from a choice of around 10. It’s the first time I have played and come across a medium nickel Paxman and it really does play extremely well and is not too harsh as one might expect and is not to dissimilar to the very popular 20M in yellow brass. It is really well in tune across the full range and one of the nicest Paxman 20s I’ve played. The horn is in really excellent condition, the valves are very tight with many many years left and cosmetically the horn has no marks or scratches after being fully refurbished.
